Lately Ella has been declaring days as "Rainbow Day". Mainly this means that she would like to paint her fingernails different colors with the Barbie fingernail polish she got for her birthday. However, on St. Patrick's Day we decided to take it a little further for fun. (as a side, since we are neither Catholic nor Irish, we don't typically get into this holiday, but the children do know the story of Maywin Socket...aka St. Patrick...which we learned from Veggie Tales).
So, St. Patrick's Day morning consisted of Rainbow Pancakes! Ella was the only one up to help make them, but everyone got to pick out what colors they wanted, except Matt who ate the entire rainbow. Addie was not as into it, and wanted pancakes as close to normal color as possible. They may not look healthy, but they are made with whole wheat and oatmeal:)
(and the red ones definitely got burnt).
The only other highlight of our day I remember was going out for our first ever Shamrock Shakes at McD's. Though everyone enjoyed it, I don't think this will be an annual tradition-they did not live up to their hype.
Nathan also wanted to make a rainbow, but he wanted to do it with fruit. So, the next Monday we made what has now been coined as "rainbow snack". Even though this was Nathan's idea, we decided to make this for breakfast and again Ella was the only one awake to help out (now you know who is our early riser).
